Identity program for the arts festival Tumult.

Tumult took place between 22 August – 23 October 2010. The word Tumult translates into English as turmoil, trouble and uproar. The festival's thematic focus was the southern part of Sjælland in Denmark. The area is seen as being the receding periphery of Denmark due to the decline of job opportunities, the financial crisis and recent administrative reforms. 21 artists were invited to present works which engaged with these issues. Tumult aimed to highlight the qualities of the periphery and involve the local community. Recession of the periphery is an international phenomenon.

Tumult – A Public Art Festival

Tumult is a festival for contemporary art taking place on Lolland, Falster, Møn and in Vordingborg in the southern part of Denmark between the 22th of August and the 24th of October 2010. Here, 21 artists and art collectives present new projects, produced for the area specifically, which engage with its history, culture and population. In the exhibition period, interventions, films, sound, sculptures, city walks, happenings and much more conquer towns and landscapes, cause changes, and create new experiences and excursion possibilities.  Tumult is organised by the municipalities of Vordingborg, Guldborgsund and Lolland in co-operation with the Lolland-Falster Museum and the Vordingborg Museums, and is curated by Christian Skovbjerg Jensen.
